Study assumptions

Study the assumptions behind your actions. Then study the assumptions behind your assumptions.
— Idries Shah

One of the most basic and wise sayings I've heard.
Harder than you'd think, though. Because we all tend very strongly to confuse our assumptions with facts. That's why we assumed them after all.

Perhaps it is just coincidence, I am reading the works of Indries Shah now.

Almost every thought of mine is an assumption. I can barely write anything publicly, as I'm so aware of this.

But we are not alone. "Science is learned by words; art by practice; detachment by companionship."

p.s. isn't that an interesting thought: "detachment is learned by companionship"? I could see it understood in different ways.

Interesting, yes, though I do suspect that it takes some doing and talent to learn that from that, seeing as nigh everybody on Earth has companionship, and hardly anybody learns detachment.
