I'm soft in the head

For many years I seemed to lose the ability to hold a firm opinion or belief. And for a while I thought this was a disability. After all, we admire people with strong beliefs. Imagine a politician who changed his mind all the time, do you think he would be elected for anything?

But now I realize that my newfound tendency to not hold tightly to any belief or insight is actually a great strength when it comes to spiritual progress. Because there's no way in hell you're going to arrive eventually at absolute truth without going through a great number of lesser "truths" on the way, and the faster you can let go, the faster will be your progress.

Dear Eolake,

I have noticed something similar with me. After having periods of strong will and determination concerning wordly affairs I am now in a position where I often have to sit and ask for guidance because I just do not know what my opinion is or what I want. Is this weakness ? I don't know...maybe it's just the awareness that there is someone who knows better no matter what

Cheers Oliver

Long ago I formulated (a bit paradoxically and of course a bit overemphasized) for myself the following insight :

- There are "little truths" and there are "big truths".
- The criterion for a "little truth" is, that the contrary is false.
- The criterion for a "big truth" is, that the contrary is also true.

When I discussed this (about 30 years ago) with my collegues in the research institute, they all declared me crazy ... but still I think there is some truth in it. (As you know: Crazy is a numbers game ...)

I'm talking about truth in "consensual reality" within the world of duality, not about truth in the absolute sense - might be a bit confusing.

In this sense: Any strong belief is a "little truth", so you HAVE to become soft in the head in order to go further ...

You may also know the old saying:
"Thats the whole trouble in the world: Stupid people are so convinced, and the sensible people are full of doubts ... therefore stupid people are leading the world."

Asking for guidance? Sure ... the cosmic intelligence is far greater than the little ego.

I agree: Congratulations.

Maybe you were Niels Bohr. He said it too.

"Maybe you were Niels Bohr."

Well, I never remembered any pastlife, even though I have gone through some intense bodywork trainings. But when I'm giving sessions I'm sometimes encountering this phenomenon, and then I use it just as a practical map ...

However, my experience about this makes it really hard to deny it. For example a friend of mine has remembered many of his pastlifes, years ago.

One of them was a pastlife as acupuncture master in China. There was no preknowledge in this life (being simply a salesman), but now he is also a acupuncture master, giving amazing sessions far beyond that what you can get anywhere else ...

"He said it too."

Really? I've studied physics and appreciated very much his contributions to quantum physics, but I didn't know this detail. As far as I remember, he was raised to the peerage choosing the yin-yang symbol as part of his emblem.

"Two sorts of truth: trivialities, where opposites are obviously absurd, and profound truths, recognised by the fact that the opposite is also a profound truth."

I had the chance to live in different countries and cultures when I was a kid, so I became basically non-judging and over-relativist person. I have some convictions, that I believe well documented, and for the rest, I observe.

I was not claiming this attitude, just being in it. In high school a friend told me that it is nice to talk with me because I don't have an opinion about everything. It was a chance to hear this. Since then I became aware of it, and made it part of my identity.

"Thats the whole trouble in the world: Stupid people are so convinced, and the sensible people are full of doubts ... therefore stupid people are leading the world."

Yes, this is a problem... !

Doubt can be a nice shield protecting from the world the one wearing it....

Not knowing if one should step left or right, one just stays standing.
